Accessibility statement
Fig Tree Patisserie is committed to making figtreepatisserie.com usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology.
Our conformance target
We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with visual, hearing, cognitive, motor and other disabilities, and they are the standard referenced under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We consider this site to be substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Substantially conformant means the site meets the standard across its pages, while we continue to test and correct issues as they are found.
What we have built in
- Semantic landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer) so screen reader users can jump between regions.
- A skip link to the main content as the first thing in the tab order.
- A single, logical heading structure on every page.
- Text and interface colors tested to meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio for body text and 3:1 for large text and controls.
- Descriptive alternative text on every meaningful image, and decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology.
- Full keyboard operation, with a clearly visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
- Form fields with real labels, error messages tied to their field, and no reliance on color alone.
- Respect for the operating system's reduce-motion setting.
- Layout that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide and up to 200% zoom.
The accessibility toolbar
Every page carries an accessibility button in the lower-left corner. Opening it gives you controls for larger text, text spacing, a readable typeface, a dyslexia-friendly typeface, high contrast, inverted colors, greyscale, highlighted links, a stronger focus outline, a large cursor, stopped animation, a reading guide and hidden images. Your choices are stored in your own browser on your own device and are not sent to us.
Known limitations
- The 360° virtual tour is a third-party panorama viewer. Its controls are not fully keyboard operable and it carries no text alternative for the panorama itself. Everything the tour shows is also described in words on our about and contact pages, and we are happy to describe the shop over the phone.
- The map on our contact page is a Google embed and only loads when you choose to load it. Its accessibility is controlled by Google. The address, parking details and a directions link are given in plain text beside it.

How this site is assessed
This statement is based on a self-evaluation carried out on August 6, 2026 using automated testing against the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rule sets, together with manual keyboard and screen reader checks. It is reviewed whenever the site changes materially.
